Donatus Akamugri appears before Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 27, 2025

Upper East Regional Minister-Designate Donatus Akamugri Atanga says he is practitioner and believer of the African Traditional Region.

The Regional Minister-Designate said this at his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

When he appeared before the Committee, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Patrick Yaw Boamah sought clarification on his traditional religious faith.

“When you say you are a traditionalist, are you a Mallam or juju man or you pour libation, what kind of traditionalist are you?”

He responded by saying, “When I say I am a traditionalist, I mean I am practicing the traditional religion of my forefathers”.

Patrick Boamah pressed further, “African Traditional Religion, in the custom of Farefares or the people of Zorko?”

He responded, “in the custom of Farefares. The people of Zorkor are also Farefares. In fact, we are Guresi speaking people. We have our tradition and how we pray to our gods”.

The Okaikwei Central MP enquired about how his traditional faith is practiced.

The Regional Minister-Designate, in response, said, “to do it, you may need to pour libation. You can invoke the spirits with your empty hands. (But) when they demand for you to kill an animal, you do so, a fowl, you do so”.
