The National Labour Commission has appealed to the Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) to rescind their decision to go on strike, pleading that the Commission will meet with them on October 2, 2020 so that they could discuss their issues with the view to resolving them amicably.
The mortuary workers have set Thursday, October 1 as the day to begin the nationwide strike as a last resort to their fight for better emoluments and conditions of service.
The workers have consistently accused the Ministry of Health of failing to meet their demands for better conditions of service.
But the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission (NLC), Mr Ofosu Asamoah, has urged them to hold on while appropriate steps are taken to address their challenges.
“We’ve asked them to hold on to the strike whilst the commission hears this matter,” he said in an interview with Citi News monitored by Dreamzfmonline.com.
Mr Ofosu Asamoah explained that if the workers embark on the strike, they will not be able to meet with the NLC, stressing that their demands are about been met.
“…The only way they can have the matter heard is to suspend the strike,” he pointed out, adding that “there was an ongoing process to pay them. And I am sure it terminated at a point. And we did not receive notice of it.”
Government is racing against time to avert the strike and a meeting has been scheduled today September 29, 2020 between the workers and the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations.
