Dr. Richard Kwesi Aning, Head of Department of Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre has said the Minister for Special Development Initiatives Hawa Koomson was candid about her gun firing action at a polling station because she did not have the choice to lie about it.
The minister who doubles as member of parliament for the Awutu Senya East Constituency admitted to firing a gun at a voters’ registration centre in her constituency.
According to her, the decision to wield a gun at the registration centre was for self protection in the absence of her police guard.
Her action has however been condemned by security analyst Prof. Richard Kwesi Aning.
Commenting on the issue on Joy news monitored by dreamzfmonline.com, Prof. Kwesi Aning called for the immediate dismissal of the minister.
“Politics is about serving the interest of this country and creating an enabling environment in which development, stability and peace allows us to perform. So it is up to the Inspector General of Police to handle this case. But it goes beyond the police service. This is our political culture and it is my hope that His Excellency the President would ask Mrs. Hawa Koomson to step aside by tomorrow afternoon or probably dismiss her”.
He noted that “All though she has been candid, she has been candid because she can’t lie about what she has done. The only saving grace for her is if she is sacked as am hoping Occupy Ghana and other people will raise their voices”.
