Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of B.C Bencyn Pharmacy, Anyanah Achelisewine Benjamin is advising against overreliance on freebies.

Mr. Anyanah Benjamin said freebies stifle personal growth and development and  make it difficult for one to attain economic independence.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today, he noted that persons who rely on freebies to cater for their needs are always expectant to receive from others and do not strive to improve upon themselves.

Such persons, he added, are relaxed and do not explore innovative ways to transform their lives and resources.

As a result, regardless of the amount of resources available to them, they will likely end up squandering them.

“I don’t want those things. Because they don’t allow you to be independent, they don’t allow you to think critically, they don’t allow you to be creative because you are always in an expectant mood. So what you have and can multiple, you will mess it up,” he posited.

Mr. Benjamin said although freebies could be beneficial, overdependence on such kind gestures may shatter dreams and make one stagnant in life.

“We are expecting rain to come. Because of that expectant thing, we don’t treat our water resources as something very important. That’s why you see this water running away. Go to Egypt where they don’t get rains like we get, the River Nile is so crucial to them”.

He added “They manage it because the Egypt is the Nile and the Nile is Egypt. So free things don’t make you critical. We have a lot of resources that if we invest in them, we will have a lot of ourselves. But because they run around free, we don’t value them”.

The businessman said this while underscoring the importance of setting goals in businesses.

He indicated that setting the right goals and work towards them will ensure the success of a business venture and result in enormous benefits to the owner and his community.

He urged potential entrepreneurs to be modest in their startups.
