Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency Isaac Adongo says the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for the just ended election in the constituency was not a competition to me.
Speaking after being declared winner of the parliamentary election of the constituency, the MP-elect said the media overhyped his opponent Elvis Atia Awonekai, making it appear as though it was a tight race and that his re-election bid was being threatened.
But that, he stated, was far from the reality and Elvis Awonekai himself knew that he (Awonekai) was no match for him in the contest.
“Figo was not my competition. Figo was just the creation of the media. But he knows that Adongo is not somebody he will come near,” he stated.
Isaac Adongo cautioned some bigwigs of the NPP, who he said, attempted to determine an MP for the constituency, urging them to invest their resources judiciously.
“This is a warning to those who think that they can leave their regions, make some money, and come here and seek to determine who becomes the parliamentary candidate of this constituency.”
He added, “They could have brought ten of them, Isaac Adongo would defeat them. It is very clear from day one that Aladji Faruk should be thinking about his pension and how to take care of his family. And if he continues to spend his money here unreasonably, he will be biting his teeth”.
The Bolgatanga Central legislator obtained 35,101 of the valid votes cast to win a third term bid. His main contender, who some said, would give him a run for his money, secured 15,470, falling behind Adongo by almost 20,000 votes.
Akunlibe Peter of the People’s National Convention (PNC) followed distantly with 404 votes.
Elvis Awonekai, who succeeded Rex Asanga as the NPP parliamentary candidate, had vowed to unseat Isaac Adongo, pointing out that the two-term MP has failed the people of the constituency.
