VINCENT ASSIFUAH, PRO MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

Ministry of Education has assured mangers of Junior High Schools( JHSs) and Senior High Schools (SHSs) that they will be supplied with personal protective equipment ( PPE) latest by the close of this week, blaming delays on transportation challenges, especially for schools in remote parts of the country.

Schools reopened today October 5, 2020 for all second year students in JHSs and SHSs with that assurance that adequate PPE will be provided to both students, teachers and other groups of workers so that they can protect themselves against the novel coronavirus disease.

Checks in some schools across the country, however, show that either the schools are yet to receive the protective gear or what has been supplied them is inadequate.

But speaking on the issue on the Pulse on JoyNews, Mr Vincent Ekow Assifuah reassured that Government through the Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring that everyone is safe in the schools for academic work to go on smoothly, stressing that every school will receive their share of the nose masks, hand sanitisers, Veronica buckets, soap and the rest of the items by the end of the week.

“Now we have already indicated that every school or every student is able to get all the PPE. However because of the system that we run, there may be some delays. But I want to reassure the general public, especially parents and the students themselves, and if you like the schools that by the end of this week, we will not have a single student complaining for not having PPE…,” he said.

Schools were suspended in March following the outbreak of the coronavirus disease in the country. However final year students in both JHSs and SHSs were called back to finish up the academic year. Second year gold track students were also were called back to finish their semester.

Now all second year students in JHSs and SHSs have begun their academic work today
