The Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy has achieved remarkable success, with student enrollment at the secondary level doubling from 800,000 in 2017 to 1.6 million in 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.

According to the president, initially, critics had expressed skepticism about the policy’s feasibility, suggesting that investing substantial taxpayer funds would not yield desired outcomes.

He said some argued that the resources were better channeled to other areas of the economy.

Speaking to the chiefs and people of the Upper East Region as part of his nationwide tour, president Akufo-Addo said he remains resolute, emphasizing that human capital development is paramount for any nation’s progress.

“Once Ghanaian people gave me the authority, I said that I would not listen to all those naysayers, I will go ahead and implement my policy,” President Akufo-Addo stated, reaffirming his commitment to education

He emphasized that, the policy’s impact extends beyond enrollment numbers. Significant improvements in education infrastructure and academic achievements have also been recorded since its implementation.

The FSHS policy has transformed Ghana’s education landscape, providing opportunities for young Ghanaians to unlock their potentials.

President Akufo-Addo said his leadership has demonstrated that investing in education yields tangible results, fostering a brighter future for Ghana’s youth.
