Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has dismissed accusations by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the Electoral Commission led by Jean Mensa is scheming to rig the 2020 Elections in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate.

Mr. Cudjoe said he does not believe that officials of the EC are conniving with the governing party to rig the elections in favor of president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In his assertion, the myriad of issues raised over the integrity of the electoral processes is not an attempt to rig the elections but a manifestation of the incompetence of the officials of the electoral management body and their evasive attitude towards concerns stakeholders raised.

“I also do not believe the Electoral Commissioners are scheming with the govt. They are just frightingly incompetent and good at being evasive,” he wrote on social media.

His comments come on the back of the commission’s latest rejection of accusation by former president Mahama and his NDC that it is scheming with the government to rig the upcoming elections for president Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Mahama and his party have consistently criticized the electoral management body over its handling of the processes leading to the 2020 General Elections accusing the EC of plotting with the president and his administration to manipulate the outcome of the election in president Akufo-Addo’s favor.

Mr. Mahama in an interview said he has no confidence in the EC under the current commissioners to deliver a credible election. He said the conduct of the EC Officials does not give him any assurance that the election will be free and fair.

His party has lately accused the EC for creating fertile grounds for electoral malpractices particularly double-voting.

According to the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otokunor, his party’s vigilance averted the EC’s latest attempt to rig the elections for the governing party through double voting.

But the Commission at a training organized for media personnel refuted the accusation insisting that the level of transparency it has ensured in the electoral processes makes it impossible for the outcome of the election to be tampered with.

Franklin Cudjoe who has been a fierce critic of the EC agrees with the Commission’s assurance that it is not conniving with the government to rig the elections.

He, however, does not believe that the EC has been transparent with the electoral processes.
