Former Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage says the Regional Minister-Designate’s quest to prove his doubters wrong by implementing transformational projects and programs is “easier said” than done.

Donatus Akamugri, who was announced Minister-Designate for the Upper East Region on Tuesday, said in interview that he was seeking divine strength to implement projects and programs that will positively transform the region so as to prove wrong those who doubt his ability to effectively head the region.

“I pray that God will strengthen me to prove doubters wrong by implementing impactful projects and programmes that will transform the region,” he said in interview on A1 Radio.

But taking to the comment section to react to a post that quotes Akamugri’s statement, Tangoba asserted that the mandate of the Regional Minister does not give them room to embark on policy and programmes implementation as he aims to do.

The core mandate of the Regional Coordinating Council, which the Regional Minister heads, is to harmonize the activities of the various assemblies, ministries, departments and agencies and does not include direct involvement in projects execution, she explains.

Except one with exceptional lobbying skills, “every RM becomes a lame horse,” she added.

“One of the most difficult and financially challenging positions to occupy in government is the position of a RM”.
