The Upper East Regional Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Donatus Akamugri has reportedly been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to head the region.

The name of the long-serving executive of the NDC is among a list of 10 Regional Ministerial nominees President Mahama has submitted to the Speaker of Parliament, requesting approval, 3News reported, citing a confidential from the president and addressed to the Speaker.

Other names on the list contained in the confidential letter include Ali Adolf John as Regional Minister-Designate for Northern Region, Ibrahim Tia for North East Region, Salisu Bi-Awuribe for Savannah Region, John Kwadwo Gyapong for Oti Region and James Gunu for Volta Region.

The rest are Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey as Regional Minister-Designate for Eastern, Dr. Frank Amoakohene for Ashanti, Charity Gardiner for Ahafo and Linda Ocloo for Greater Accra Regions.

This comes a day after Parliament vetted the first 3 ministerial nominees the President submitted to the House.

President Mahama, on January 9, 2025, nominated Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Minister-Designate for Justice and Attorney-General, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister-Designate for Finance and John Jinapor as Minister-Designate for Energy.

Though the nominees have been vetted, they are yet to be approved.
