KENNEDY AGYAPONG - ASSIN CENTRAL MP

Medical Doctor of Assin Central Member of Parliament has been ordered to appear before the Accra High Court to explain health complications that prevented the vociferous MP from appearing to face contempt charges.

His lawyers had explained to the court that he failed to appear in court today to face contempt charges because of complications arising from COVID-19 which he suffered.

Presenting a medical excuse form to the court, Mr Kwame Gyan, explained that Kennedy Agyapong got post COVID-19 complications and was receiving treatment. He prayed the court to adjourn the case for fourteen days to enable his client recover fully to face his charges.

Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni, the Presiding Judge granted the request to adjourn the case for fourteen days and then requested that the doctors appear before the court to provide it with some further particulars on Kennedy Agyapongs sickness.

Kennedy Agyapong is facing the court over comments he made that the court deems amount to contempt.

Mr Agyapong had threatened to deal decisively with a Judge who had issued an interlocutory injunction against him with respect to a land dispute involving him and another party. He went further to describe the Judge in very unsavoury terms.

On 18th September, 2020, he pleaded not guilty to the contempt charges after failing to get the judge on the matter to discontinue the case. He lawyers had challenged the power of the judge sitting on the matter, but the judge noted that nothing stopped him from sitting on the matter.
