Disability groups in the country have thrown their support behind Thomas More, a health practitioner, in the Council of State membership election scheduled for Tuesday, January 11, 2025.

Thomas More is among nine individuals contesting for the single slot of the Upper East Region at the Council of State.

A nurse by profession, Thomas said he lost his mobility in an accident that occurred while he was on his way to attend to an emergency.

Thomas, who said he has dedicated his life to serving humanity, wants an opportunity to influence decision-making at the highest office of the land and thus, his bid for the Council of State membership.

The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled and the Ghana Federation of Disability Organization have, in a statement, endorsed the candidature of Thomas More and urged delegates to vote him in the election.

Thomas More, they argued, has demonstrated in his years of public service that he is committed to development and inclusivity and will contribute effectively to formulating policies and programs that will drive social progress.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast News on Dreamz FM yesterday, Mathew Annor Kodo, president of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled said Thomas More possesses the right leadership qualities to contribute to national development.

He, thus, re-echoed the group’s  call on delegates to elect Thomas for the position.

“Looking at Mr. More , he does his work professionally and he is so efficient and competent and benevolent and the adjectives that you can think of. This man possesses them all and we as a society thinks that when we get such person into the council of state, he’s closer to the President and any issue that confronts persons with disability, he can be as a mediation ladder between us and the Presidency,” he stated.
