The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to the general public to refrain from using police pennant and paraphernalia.
In a police wireless message from the Inspector General of Police and signed by C.O.P Nana Asomah-Hinneh, the administration noted that it has observed the unauthorized use of its paraphernalia and fixing of its stickers on vehicles by some members of the general public despite its cautions against the unauthorized usage of such items. It stated that such acts of impunity are unacceptable and would not be countenanced by the administration.
“It has come to the notice of the police administration that inspite of numerous messages regarding unauthorised use of police pennant/paraphernalia by unathorised persons, the practice still persist. It has also been observed that some members of the general public continue to use police pennant/paraphernalia and affix police stickers on their cars with impunity. This unruly behaviour is unacceptable and cannot be countenanced,” it stated.
It also stated that members of the general public who fail to adhere to the directive would be dealt with.
It further stated that the IGP has directed police commanders at all levels to caution the service personnel who are using such items in their private vehicles to immediately remove them stating that they would be dealt if they fail to comply with the directive.
“INGPOL directs commanders to warn personnel using such pennants in their private vehicles to remove them immediately or face disciplinary actions when caught,” it added.
While cautioning police to desist from giving out the service’s items to the general public, it stated that personnel of the MTTD are directed to inspect and arrest for prosecution motorist found using unauthorized items of the police service. The police are also directed to sensitize the general on the consequences of using items of the police service without authority.
“He further directs MTTD personnel to monitor motorist with unauthorised police pennant/stickers in their vehicles and arrest them for prosecution.”
