Former Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region Andrew Atariwini has slammed the Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, describing as politically motivated and a desperate attempt to keep his job at the anti-graft agency the SP’s declaration of former Minister of Finance a fugitive from justice.

Although the former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s handling of the country’s finances incurred the wrath of even members of his party, characterizing him in such a manner is simply a ridiculous attempt to purge Kissi Agyebeng of his failures as Special Prosecutor, Atariwini argued.

The former NPP regional executive claimed the Special Prosecutor since taking over office has failed to lead the agency to effectively fight graft and is now clutching at the straws through “unprofessional” conduct.

“Hon. Ken had his limitations and the grassroots of our party will struggle for long to forgive  his ‘sins’.

But the characterisation by the OSP about Ken is for me, politically motivated, desperate attempts to stay on the job that has thus far shown no impact  in the corruption  fight of our country and quite unprofessional”.

The Special Prosecutor yesterday declared the former Finance Minister wanted and a fugitive from justice, accusing him of attempting to evade interrogation.

Ken Ofori-Atta, who is being investigated for multiple corruption and related offences, requested of the OSP to be away indefinitely on medical grounds, Kissi Agyebeng said at a press conference.

But the agency rejected his request and directed him to physically avail himself for interrogation.

In an attempt to evade interrogation, he has been deploying various antics including transmitting a “generic letter” purported to be from a medical doctor to the OSP, justifying his decision to stay out of the country on the appointed date of his interrogation, the Special Prosecutor claimed.

Kissi Agyebeng, however, said the agency does not“put premium on Ofori-Atta’s alleged imminent peril should he travel back to the jurisdiction” and will deploy every legal means to ensure is returned to answer questions.

But Atariwini cannot fathom “How do you declare  one a figutive when he wrote to the government of the day regarding  his travel”.
