The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that the next government of John Dramani Mahama, should he win the December polls, will absorb full school fees of students who will be admitted into tertiary institutions in the 2020/2021 academic year.
According to a statement signed by, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the National Chairman of the party, the education policy dubbed ‘Fa Ninyinaa’, which is a recommendation of the party’s Education Policy Group and has been accepted for incorporation into the NDC’s manifesto, is an enhancement of the party’s earlier promise to absorb 50 percent of the school fees of all tertiary students for next academic year.
The promise to absorb 50 percent of school fees, the statement added, will henceforth apply to only continuing students of tertiary institutions for the 2020/2021 academic year.
“The National Democratic Congress (NDC), announces that it has accepted for incorporation in the Peoples’ Manifesto, the recommendation of the Education Policy Group of the party that the next NDC government absorbs the FULL school fees of Ghanaian students who will be admitted to tertiary institutions in the 2020/2021 academic year.
This policy is an enhancement of our commitment in the People’s Manifesto to absorb 50% of the school fees of all tertiary students for the 2020/2021 academic year through the “KYEMUPE” policy, which will now apply to only continuing students in tertiary institutions in the country,” the statement explained.
Flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama, the statement indicated, will be given details of the enhanced policy in due course.
“The Flagbearer of the Party, H.E John Dramani Mahama will in due course, throw more light on this enhanced package for Ghanaian students who be admitted to tertiary institutions next year dubbed, ‘Fa NINYINAA’,” the statement added.
The party at its 2020 manifesto launch in Accra on September 7, 2020 promised to absorbed half of school fees of all tertiary students for the 2020/2021 academic.
The promise, which was captured in the People’s Manifesto, the party explained, was to cushion students and parents from the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic
