Local Governance Consultant and Senior Lecturer at the C.K. Tedam University of Science and Technology Dr. Sumaila Asaa Mohammed has expressed misgivings over the decision of President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo to replace Peter Ayinbisa as District Chief Executive for Bongo.
In his list of nominees for the position of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives for 260 Assemblies across the country, the president named Rita Atanga as DCE nominee for the Bongo District.
In all, six (6) District Chief Executives who were appointed in the President’s first term have been retained with a total of nine (9) newly appointed in the latest appointments.
Speaking in an interview on Dreamz Breakfast News, Dr Asaa said some Assemblies through their Chief Executives have performed well by their ability to mobilize resources to execute their programs and initiatives.
The performance according to him reflected in assessment of the performance of the various Assemblies in meeting their key performance indicators.
“We have individuals who did very well in terms of how they are able to mobilize support for the development of their districts but they were not retained. There are few of them around districts we could see but that is not to say those who are coming cannot perform such roles. For instance, Bongo District is a clear case and I would have thought and wished that somebody like Peter Ayinbisa would continue. That is not to say that the one who is coming does not have that capacity. So we pray that the person who is coming is able to fill the very big shoes, not at the party level,” he said.
He further noted that the function of the DCE goes beyond performing duties for the political party adding that “For me as a development consultant, I’m looking at how a DCE is supposed to function for the benefit of the district and score him from that particular angle. He [Peter Ayinbisa] did very well and could have continued but it is the decision of the president and not mine”.
Though a report by the committee tasked to assess aspirants for the MMDCEs positions sighted by dreamzfmonline.com indicated that Mr. Peter Ayinbisa will not be maintained, the committee recommended two other aspirants namely Ayambire Cletus Innocent and Diana Aduko Aburiya Asuure to be considered for nomination as DCE for the district.
However, that did not happen as Rita Atanga gets nominated, a decision which some members of the party have described as surprising.
