The District Chief Executive for Builsa South Daniel Kwame Gariba has detailed the events surrounding the alleged ransacking of his official residence.
Daniel Gariba narrated that the incident occurred a day after the election when he had left home.
While away, he said he had a distress call about his residence being under siege. He, in turn, reported the matter to the police, whose quick intervention averted the raid and subsequent investigation led to the retrieval of some of the items looted, he said.
Describing the incident as unfortunate, Kwame Gariba expressed shock about the items that were looted.
He said items as basic as curtains, mattresses, furniture and his personal belongings were stolen.
“For me, it’s a big shocker because my bed, the beds in the room, the mattresses, the chairs, the curtain as if some deaths had occurred and people needed to share everything.”
Some of them, he indicated, have so far been retrieved and perpetrators arrested following the police investigation.
“I think the police did very well. I think most of them (raiders) were from the nearby community where my residence was. So they were able to retrieve some few items, got some of them to take their statements”.
The raid was believed to be linked to the just ended parliamentary elections in the area in which Daniel Gariba contested against the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency for the seat.
But the DCE and NPP parliamentary candidate for the Builsa South Constituency does not believe the attack was politically motivated.
For him, it was perpetrated by criminal elements, who are taking advantage of the tensed political atmosphere.
“People take advantage of situations and want to do their own things. It’s an unfortunate incident and it shouldn’t have happened.”
