The C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences’ quest to fill the  vacant positions of a Vice-Chancellor and a Registrar has been dealt a severe blow following a legal suit seeking to stop the institution from appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The two principal positions of the university became vacant after a Bolgatanga High Court in November 2023 ordered the removal of Prof. Eric Magnus Wilmot and Dr. Vincent A. Ankamah Lomotey who were Vice-Chancellor and Registrar respectively.

The court had contended that both had attained the retirement age for public officers and thus, their continued stay in office was illegal since they had not been given contract employment.

It, therefore, ordered their removal and asked the university to appoint their replacements.

The institution on November 28, 2023 announced that it had initiated processes to fill the vacant positions.

However, in a statement dated March 25, 2024, the university said although the Search Committee instituted to find candidates for the positions has completed its work and submitted its recommendations to the Governing Council, it has put the appointment of the new officers on hold due to a lawsuit seeking to stop the employment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

“Out of respect for the rule of law, Council has therefore put the appointments of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar on hold pending the hearing of the application for interlocutory injunction”.

The statement signed by Chairman of the Governing Council Prof. Gordon A. Awandare indicated that it has, instead, appointed the most senior professor in the institution Prof. Luguterah to act in the position of the Vice-Chancellor while Gilbert Ansoglenang will continue to act as a Registrar.

“Under the circumstances, and considering the restrictions imposed by CKT-UTAS Statute 64(8), Council has appointed the Most Senior Professor in the university, Prof. Albert Luguterah , as Acting Vice-Chancellor with immediate effect. Mr. Gilbert Ansoglenang will continue as the Acting Registrar under the conditions of his appointment”.
