Paramount Chiefs in the Kasena-Nankana Traditional Area have expressed displeasure at what they say are attempts by some faceless individuals to mislead and incite youth in the area against the Governing Council of the C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences in the council’s efforts to appoint a substantive Vice-Chancellor and a Registrar.
“We also deem it imperative to express our disgust at attempts by faceless individuals to misinform, mislead and incite a cross-section of the youth of Navrongo against the Governing Council and its highly esteemed Chairman during the process of a search for a new Vice-Chancellor and Registrar,” excerpts of a statement signed by 9 paramount chiefs of the area where the institution is situated read.
This comes on the back of a lawsuit seeking an interlocutory injunction against the appointment of the two by the university.
The suit filed by one George Abeliwine Apasigo has compelled the Governing Council to put on hold the process to fill the vacant positions.
The chiefs, in the statement, posited that some faceless persons are bent on thwarting the efforts of the council to appoint replacements for the VC and Registrar positions and served notice that “such counter-productive acts shall not be countenanced henceforth”.
While urging members of the university community to resort to internal laid down procedures for dispute resolution, “we equally entreat the police and the National Investigation Bureau to act swiftly to avert unwarranted demonstrations and acts of violence intended to disrupt the smooth running of the university”.
They argued that “The C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences is a national asset and the people of the Upper East Region are privileged to have it situated on our soil. It therefore behoves on us to jealously protect and preserve it, hence the urgent need to eschew needles litigations and acts of violence that have the potential to derail the progress of the university”.
They expressed confidence in the Governing Council to adopt best practices in appointing the next Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, adding that they are ready to work with the management team that will be put in place to help the university achieve its mandate.
