The paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area Pe Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam III has won the Upper East Regional slot of the Council State membership.
The Chiana-Pio polled 18 votes out of the total 30 votes cast to clinch victory over 6 others who contested in the election held today at the Regional House of Chiefs in Bolgatanga.
Thomas More followed him distantly with 5 votes while Peter Baba Aluze-ele and Justice Aduko obtained 3 and 2 votes respectively.
Two others – Balinia Adda Dennis and Bismarck Adongo Ayorogo – both managed only a vote each with Elias Ayinbila Apasiya recording no vote.
Nine persons had filed to contest the election in the Upper East Region. However, two pulled out few days to the polls.
While Arabogo Ben Azumah, a social worker cited personal reasons for his withdrawal, Desmond Ayambire Abire, a development worker said he was pulling out to support the Chiana-Pio, stating that his advocacy for inclusive governance, development and improvement in the welfare of assembly members aligned with the vision of the paramount chief.
This is the second victory of Chiana-Pio in an election in less than 6 months. He was in September 2024 re-elected president of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, a victory which is being challenged in court.
