The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and paramount Chiefs in the Chaina Paga constituency in the Upper East Region, are being urged to call the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic in the constituency, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, to order.
This call was made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Chaina-Paga following a recent confrontation during the Kassena Nankana West District Independence Day Parade that left some persons said to be members of the NPP injured.
Unhappy about the recent incident, the NPP is requesting of the 7 paramount Chiefs and the NDC to bring the parliamentary candidate and his boys to order.
“We are pleading that every stakeholder who wants the well-being of this constituency to publicly condemn Mr. Alamzy for his aggressive activities in the constituency. We have been in this constituency together,” Constituency Secretary of the NPP said.
These concerns were raised by the NPP at a Press Conference in the constituency on Sunday March 10, 2024.
Addressing the press, the NPP Constituency Secretary, Kwalase Bayeriwe Thomas, noted that the actions of Mr. Alamzy is threatening the peace and security of the area, adding the NDC Parliamentary Candidate has some Burkinabe nationals as part of a group they say is known as ‘Save Ghana.’
“In time past, we were together in the NPP with Alamzy. We never trained him as a party to behave that way. But crossing to carpet to join the NDC, because they say they have revolutionary roots, he has taken advantage and he is perpetrating those acts of violence on innocent Ghanaians.
So we are asking the NDC, the paramount chiefs publicly condemn him. We should not just see this as politics as usual but what he is doing is actually threatening the peace and security of this constituency”.
According to the NPP scribe, the decision of political parties to often take part in the march past is to foster unity and peaceful co-existence. Rather, this year’s edition took a different turn for the worse.
Per their narration, three people were arrested but have since been granted bail. An act they say has seen the individuals return to the constituency and allegedly issue fresh threats on the person of the constituency chairman.
Mr. Kwalase therefore wants the Chiefs and the NDC to call the candidate to order ahead of the major elections in a bit not to escalate tensions in the area.
Narrating the circumstances leading to the altercation, the NPP Constituency Secretary claimed his party members were at the event partaking in the march pass when NDC members led by their candidate, who had finished with the annual ritual, ran into them and started attacking them.
