The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency is raising concerns over about the conduct of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) parliamentary candidate for the area.

According to the party, the candidate Nikyema Billa Alamzy has recruited and maintained a vigilante group comprised of foreign nationals, who are terrorising his opponents in the Constituency.

The group known as ‘Save Ghana’, the NPP claimed, has members who are Burkinabe national and they fear it could be a conduit for a spill over of insurgent activities from the Sahel region.

They are, thus, calling on the security agencies to take appropriate action against the group and its activities as they believe its existence threatens the peace and security of the area and Ghana at large.

“We are calling on the security agencies to put an eye on the group calling itself Save Ghana. How can a Burkinabe come and tell us he is saving Ghana? Not all of them are Ghanaians. So we are pleading that our chiefs should not allow us sit as a society and allow Burkinabes to come and beat us up in our constituency and perhaps hijack our politics and take our seats to wherever they want to,” he stated.

The governing party raised these concerns at a press conference held on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

Constituency Secretary of the party, who addressed the press, accused the NDC parliamentary candidate of instigating violence during the recent Independence Day Parade in the Kasena-Nankana District.

He claimed while members of the NPP were taking their turn to march pass, Mr. Alamzy led his party members who had finished with the activity, to attack them.

While accusing the NDC candidate of being aggressive since defecting from NPP to the NDC, Kwalase Bayeriwe Thomas called on the opposition party and traditional rulers in the area to condemn him for his violent acts.
