In March 2023 when the campaign to establish a dialysis center at the Upper East Regional Hospital was officially launched, the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilson- Nalebegtang, promised to liaise with mining companies operating in the Talensi District to support in the establishment of the center.
Just a few months into the operationalization of the facility, the Paramount Chief returned to the facility delighted that Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited, a member of the Shandong Gold Group, has moved to donate a brand new dialysis machine and some consumables to the center.
The mining company that is yet to commence commercial mining on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, fully donated one dialysis machine including a Bicart holder and other accessories, one dialysis manual bed/chair, 240 bloodlines,240 Hollow Fibre Dialyzers, HF19, 240 Bloodlines, 480 Fistula needles 16G, 120 Gallons of Acid Concentrate Dialysate and 240 Gallons of Bicarbonate Cartridge.
The donation came at a time two out of the center’s three dialysis machines developed faults.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to hand over the items to authorities at the Regional Hospital, Vice President of Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited, Feng Boali noted that the initiative was a request of the Paramount Chief adding, that his outfit recognizes that its operations must go hand in hand with the welfare of the people and stakeholders hence, the donation.
He stated that the donation reflects the company’s social corporate responsibility.
Mr. Baoli emphasized that his outfit is eager to strengthen partnerships with all stakeholders as it transitions into operations and production.
“This donation is not merely an act of charity; it reflects our corporate social responsibility. We believe that a healthy community is a prosperous community. The provision of this dialysis machine and associated consumables will significantly enhance the capabilities of the regional hospital to better serve patients suffering from kidney-related ailments,” he stated.
“As we transition into operations and production, we are eager to strengthen our shared goals for development. By working together, we can create a sustainable future that benefits not only our company but also the communities we are privileged to be part of,” he stressed.
Tongraan Kugbilson- Nanlebegtang expressed delight that eventually one of the mining companies in the area has so far donated the machine and other consumables to the facility.
“This was a pledge I made during the launch of the appeal for funds to establish this center to appeal to the mining companies and our appeal has been heard by Cardinal Namdini Mining Company. We want to thank them very much for their effort.”
Medical Director of the Upper Regional Hospital, Dr. Saaniwie Aiden, while providing the status of operations at the facility, says they have done over 100 sessions with 15 registered regular patients.
The initiative saw the company spend GH₵466,505.
