Police in Lagos State in Nigeria has arrested five policemen attached to Grammy award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu known by his stage name, Burna Boy for allegedly shooting two men at a night club.
The shooting incident is said to have occurred at about 4am on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Club Cubana in Lagos where the singer had visited with his police escort.
He is said to have detailed 4 out of the 5 policemen escorting him at the entrance of the night club while one in mufti identified only as Inspector Ibrahim accompanied him into the club.
According to reports, the singer, while in the VIP section of the club chilling with three women, spotted another woman, who was there with her husband, and instructed his security guard to invite her to join him.
This, however, did not go down well with the woman’s husband, who lambasted Burna Boy for disrespecting him by making advances at his wife in his presence.
The singer is said to have backed off initially but after some few minutes, started making advances towards the woman again.
This got the husband and his friends, who were with him at the time, further infuriated resulting into a brawl. In the midst of the chaos, the security guard pulled out his gun and opened fire at the crowd, injuring the husband and one other person while Burna Boy himself was seated and laughing.
People who attempted to record the incident had their phones snatched by the policemen and smashed.
The singer and his guards subsequently made their way out of the night club amidst gunshots and drove off home.
Police say Burna Boy, sensing the trouble he had gotten himself into, immediately fled the country without even informing his guards and only called them later to inform them that he had left Nigeria for Spain.
The security guards have since been arrested and detained to assist investigations into the matter while the victims are being treated at health facilities.
