Charles Bawadua, Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency, has conducted an on-the-ground assessment of the devastation wrought by a recent windstorm that ravaged several communities in the district.
The powerful storm, which struck on Monday, March 10, 2025, left in its wake a trail of destruction, displacing hundreds of residents, injuring several, and destroying critical infrastructure.
The communities of Beo/Adaboya, Anafobisi, Balungo, Tarongo, and Kanga were among the hardest hit, with the storm’s fury rendering many homes uninhabitable and leaving numerous families without access to basic necessities.
Schools in the affected areas were severely impacted, with roofs torn off, furniture and learning materials destroyed, and classes severely disrupted.
Headteachers of the affected schools have issued a heartfelt appeal to the government to intervene and provide urgent support to enable the resumption of teaching and learning activities.

“The situation is dire, and teaching and learning have become extremely challenging. The destruction of school infrastructure and learning materials has set back our academic calendar, and if immediate action is not taken, our students will be severely disadvantaged,” they lamented
The headteachers emphasized that the prolonged disruption to education will have far-reaching consequences, including poor academic performance, decreased student enrollment, and a widening of the existing education gap.
They urged the government to provide emergency funding to repair damaged school buildings, replace destroyed learning materials, and support affected students and teachers.
Bawadua, who was accompanied by leadership of the district education directorate on a tour of the affected schools, expressed deep concern over the situation and pledged to work tirelessly to secure government support for the affected communities.
“It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation firsthand, and I’m committed to doing everything in my power to ensure that our communities receive the support they need to recover and rebuild,” he stated.
