A member of the communication team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bongo Constituency, Duke Anaba is worried about the unresolved long existing deep cracks among executives and leadership of the party in the Constituency, which he believes is an indication of a party that is not ready to snatch parliamentary seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, their only hope was the current District Chief Executive of the area, Rita Atanga who the party thought could be able to put divisions and agitations to rest after giving her 100% confirmation by the assembly.
Mr Anaba said, the situation has been worse upon the assumption of office of the DCE, due to her inability to use her position to unite and resolve critical party issues in the Constituency.
Speaking on Breakfast Today’s Program on Dreamz FM yesterday, Mr Anaba feared the situation if not given immediate attention before the 2024 general election would negatively affect the fortunes of the party.
“I sat through her confirmation because she didn’t know any assembly member. I needed to give her the guidance so she was doing the consultation how to succeed and we were looking for 100 percent confirmation for her.
And by God’s grace, we got that 100 percent and that’s what I thought that she squandered that opportunity in the way she went about managing the district,” he stated.
“I will be hypocritical to say the party shouldn’t be worried. I see the numbers coming down in 2024. That’s worrying. We should be making progress and that is why I say it’s a leadership problem. The party leadership on their own and the DCE also working on her own. So there’s no synchronization”.
Rita Atanga was appointed DCE for the area by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his second term of office.
Her appointment came as a surprise to many as they had tipped either former DCE, Peter Ayinbisa or the 2012 parliamentary candidate of the party for the constituency, Diana Aburiya to be given the job.
But Madam Atanga, political watchers explained, was seen as neutral party in the NPP’s internal feud in the constituency hence, her appointment to lead the unification of the party in the area.
