The governing New Patriotic Party in the Bongo Constituency has condemned supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area who say they would vote for a goat dressed in NDC’s paraphernalia.

The supporters numbering about 3 attended Mr. Mahama’s rally at the Namoo Primary School Park on Monday, August 5, 2024 with a goat adorned in NDC colours in demonstration of their unflinching loyalty to the party.

They told pressmen that they would vote for the animal if it contested on the ticket of the party.

But in a statement dated August 7 and signed by Constituency Secretary of the NPP, the party said it finds the action and commentary of the NDC supporters insulting to the people of the constituency and unacceptable.

It stated that such attitude by the NDC and its supporters is a clear indication of the party’s disregard for the constituents and their continuous attempt to set the people up against their (the people’s) wellbeing.

According to the NPP, despite the people of the area’s unwavering loyalty to the NDC for over 3 decades now, the umbrella party has taken them for granted and neglected their needs.

“This absurd act is not only an insult to the intelligence of the electorates but also a stark reminder of the NDC’s failure to deliver development to the Constituents despite winning the seat for 32 years”.

While calling on the NDC to take responsibility for the action of its supporters at an event where its leader was present, it stated that Monday’s incident is a classical case of the party paying the good of the people of the constituency with evil.

“Despite our magnanimity toward the NDC, it has on Monday 5th August 2024 paid us with evil by describing the good people of Bongo with little or no intelligence who always chooses to vote for party colours instead substance and development”.

It said that, unlike the NDC, it holds the Bongo people in high regard and has demonstrated commitment to addressing their needs with the implementation of numerous projects and policies some of which it listed in the statement.

The NPP is, therefore, urging constituents to reject the NDC and throw their weight behind it and its leader as they (NPP and its leader) are committed to bettering their lives.

“We thus humbly urge the people of Bongo to say enough of the persistent insults from the NDC. As constituents, let us demand for accountable leadership and reject such frivolous displays. It is time for a change! It is time for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Diana Asuure Aburiya!! It is time we prioritize development over symbolism!!!”
