Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya, a Private Legal Practitioner and Member of the National Democratic Congress, has made a case for the construction of a monumental road infrastructure that could lead to the transformation of the entire Bongo District and surrounding communities.
“If you look at Bongo, there is one route that if we can connect it and construct it, it’s a circular route, …this is a practical example of what can change the dynamics, the socioeconomic dynamics of the entire Bongo,” he stated.
This particular road which has been partly worked on by the Nana Addo administration stretches from Sumbrungu in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Zorkor, Balungu Nayorogo, Namoo, Feo, Akayongo-Dua back to Yorogo in the Bolgatanga Municipality and Gowrie in the Bongo District.
He believes that if this road is fixed, it would improve the situation in Bongo and propel the development of the district.
Aside from the Bolgatanga-Bongo road that connects the regional capital, Bolgatanga to the Bongo District, the entire district is bedevilled with what could be described as an extremely deplorable road network.
Some of the stretches have broken culverts with movement in certain parts of the district especially during the rainy season being difficult.
With the situation being a matter of concern to residents of the area, Dr. Akumperigeya is hoping to work with appointees of the government to ensure it is worked on.
Speaking Monday on the State of Our, Dr. Akumperigeya, noted that President Mahama while campaigning to be Flagbearer of the NDC pledged to work on the road.
According to Dr. Akumperigeya Bongo is due that road.
“Bongo is due that circular road that would connect all the communities that I’ve mentioned, and that road must be a first-class road and that should connect us to Burkina Faso.”
“This has been a very burning desire in myself, and I’m saying that we will put this case forward. We would be very demanding. We will insist, and we will insist in a very sustainable basis that you cannot ignore us. We need a budget for it”.
Speaking in connection with his new role as the Secretary of the Constitutional Review Committee setup by President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Akumperigeya, noted that the 1992 constitution has served its purpose in terms of helping in the election of leaders.
However, notes there are serious human rights related issues that the committee would be engaging members of the public to help fine tune and ensure changes to the constitution.
