DESIGN OF THE LECTURE THEATRE TO BE CONSTRUCTED

As part of the Bolgatanga Technical University’s 25th anniversary, authorities of the university have stretched a hand of appeal to individuals, philanthropists and the government of Ghana to support in efforts to build a 1,920 lecture theater.

Already, the university during its 25th anniversary grand durbar on Friday, March 14, 2025, started an appeal for funds to commence the construction of the project while they look to soliciting more support from various quarters.

The construction of the lecture theater has become necessary because the institution has not got proper lecture halls and offices for lecturers.

Aside from the challenge of adequate lecture halls, lecturers and faculty heads have no offices, compelling some of them to operate in their cars.

This situation does not augur well for proper administrative culture and institutional memory.

The designed edifice would contain four halls with 160 capacity per lecture hall which can be configured into classes, four main auditoriums with 160 capacity per auditorium.

It would also house the exams unit, which would have 15 offices, 45 offices for lecturers, lecturers’ cafeteria as well as conference rooms and seminar spaces.

Speaking to Dreamz News on the sidelines of the durbar, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, described the construction of the facility as a necessity as he appeals to individuals, philanthropists and government to come to the aid of the university.

“At the moment, we are overflowing our lecture halls in the sense that the student numbers are overwhelming this time around. So there’s usually congestion, there’s usually lectures close very late, up to 7, 8 pm and that is posing a big challenge for us. As for offices for lecturers, none. No lecturer has an office to stay independently and do research or prepare lecture notes or even give some counselling and guidance to students. They use their class as offices.” He lamented.
