Member Of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongo has donated furniture to seven schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
The donation of the 500 dual desks comes after 50 desks were donated earlier under a certificate of emergency.
The furniture situation according to Authorities of Education in the Municipality and the entire region is dire, compelling many pupils to lie on their bellies for academic activities.
The MP in an interaction with the media moments after handing over the 500 dual desks to the Municipal Directorate of Education explained that Headteachers, Assembly Members and parents have bombarded him with pictures of pupils at the KG, primary and junior high school levels sitting on the floor for academic activities.
The Bolgatanga Central lawmaker said the furniture situation in the Municipality is serious and will require consistent efforts to reduce the deficit, hence his resolve to, on a regular basis provide furniture to schools in the area.
He stated that he was compelled to withdraw an application he sent to the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in 2019 to source funds from his Common Fund allocation after the assembly failed to process the application and to reapply for the GETFUND allocation for MPs to purchase the furniture.
“Somewhere in May 2019 when this problem came to my attention during the storm that hit some of the schools which required me to go and reroof, I noticed that the problem was not just the roof that had just been ripped off but that the classrooms were empty. So I immediately made a request to the Municipal Assembly to utilize part of my Common Fund to provide this furniture. The rest they say is history. To date, that furniture has not been provided and I had to withdraw that application somewhere last year and to begin a new process through the Ghana Education Trust Fund and through the GES offices where I had some monies that were disbursed to me from the GETFUND and the end result is the 500 dual desks that you see,” he stressed.
Mr. Adongo acknowledged the efforts of Narrative Changers and some other individuals that have embarked on sourcing for funding to support the Nyariga Primary School and urges them to continue since addressing the furniture challenge will require collective efforts.
The beneficiary schools are Awogeya primary school, Ayusiyine primary school (Kalbeo),Yikene JHS,Nyariga Primary school,Preparatory primary school,Yorogo primary school and Kalbeo-Tindonsobligo Primary school.
