First and second-year Students of both Bolgatanga Technical Institute in the Bolgatanga Municipality and Bawku Technical Institute in the Bawku Municipality of the Upper East Region will soon resume academic activities.
This assurance was given by the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu who spoke to Journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of a newly built structure for the Bolgatanga Divisional Police Command.
A joint Police-Military team on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, took over the campus of the Bawku Technical Institute in the Upper East Region following the decision by students of the school to riot over what they described as strict or harsh invigilation by teachers of the school during the mathematics paper as part of their just ended final-year examination
The riot at that Bolgatanga Technical Institute was also due to the arrest of a teacher and some students by the National Investigation Bureau over examination malpractice.
The two pure technical institutions were on August 3, 2022 shutdown completely with final-year students only reporting to write their exams.
The first- and second-year students according to the regional minister, will soon be invited back on campus to continue with academic activities.
Mr. Yakubu who described the behavior of the students as heartbreaking, called on them to conduct themselves properly as they return.
“Very soon because the final-year students completed the exam on the 25th of August so we are planning to bring in the first- and second-year students but I can be specific on the day because we are talking to TVET but very soon the students will be invited back,” he disclosed.
He adds that individuals arrested over the leaked papers are still under investigation.
