Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress for the Upper East Region Abdallah Jonathan Salifu has rated former Municipal Chief Executive of Bolgatanga Joseph Amiyuure above his successor Rex Asanga in terms of their leadership of the regional capital.
The immediate past MCE of Bolgatanga, he said, underperformed during his 4-year stint as local government head of the Municipality.
Abdallah stated that he had had high expectations of the man known for his development advocacy due to his leadership credentials especially in the NGOs.
However, after 4 years in office, he is disappointed in him and now, rates his predecessor, who was said to be one of the underwhelming MCE of the area, over him (Asanga).
“Honorable Rex Asanga, he should pardon me, the expectation I, for instance, had for him, I got disappointed with the kind of leadership he exhibited as a Municipal Chief Executive. And if I want to rate him and Honorable Amiyuure, to be very frank with you, I rate will Amiyuure higher than him,” he stated on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM.
“But before he came into office, if you had looked at his profile, looked at his exposure, you and I would have not, in any way, thought that he would not perform to our expectation. Because he’s somebody who has worked in the NGO field for a very long time.
So our expectation was that he would use those connections to bring us something extra.”
Aside from failing to mobilize adequate resources for the development of the Municipality, a failure Rex Asanga himself admitted in an interview on Dreamz FM, Abdallah contended that he did not do anything extraordinary despite the abundance of resources in the last 4 years and his influence in the NGO space.
Rex Asanga succeeded Joseph Amiyuure in 2021 and had been MCE of Bolgatanga until the recent revocation of the appointments of MMDCEs by President John Dramani Mahama.
His appointment, in 2021, received high approval from both sides of the Ghanaian political divide and among non-partisan people.
But Abdallah Jonathan said he did not live up to expectations.
