A fundraising campaign to mobilise funds for the establishment of a haemodialysis center at the Bolgatanga Hospital in the Upper East Region has received a huge boost as traditional authorities, workers unions, business owners, media and others make contributions.

The calls for a dialysis centre at the Bolgatanga Hospital became a topical issue following revelations of high numbers of kidney cases being recorded in the region.

Hospital authorities have disclosed that the unavailability of the facility is making the management and treatment of kidney diseases difficult. Patients with acute kidney diseases who could have their conditions reversed through dialysis are unable to access the services in the region. They are often referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and other tertiary facilities in other parts of the country.

It has also emerged that the cost of travelling and cost of accessing the services has compelled most patients to skip or completely avoiding the recovery process, thereby leading to a deterioration of their conditions and deaths.

In the past weeks, campaigns on mainstream and social media have peaked to mobilise funds to set up the dialysis centre at an estimated cost of over Ghc 800,000.00.

A durbar to launch the campaign and raise funds was attended by traditional authorities, government officials, Civil Society Organisations, Business owners, health workers unions, clergy, media amongst others.
