On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Mathew Silas Amoah, got popular acclamation to become the parliamentary candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the Bolgatanga East Constituency of the Upper East Region. He becomes the party’s first candidate to have gone unopposed in the constituency since its inception in 2012.
This was after he successfully went through the vetting process last Friday, September 8, following a timetable issued by the party for the process to be completed for some constituencies where the candidates are going unopposed.
The event widely described as well attended, saw big wigs of the party including national and regional executives as well as the Former Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari, take turns to urge members of the party to ensure they embark on a massive campaign to secure the seat.
Having been confirmed as the parliamentary candidate, Mr. Amoah said the mission was never to be a parliamentary candidate but to become a member of parliament to offer more development to the constituency. He stated that his work which will be intensified, has pushed the member of parliament for the area to begin making donations.
His emergence has made the NPP in Bolga East come alive, especially after the fall out of the 2020 elections that resulted in deep-seated cracks with many casting doubts as to whether the party in the area will get a candidate to give the NDC a good contest
However, the young businessman has given a clear indication that he is ready to match the NDC in all spheres of the political campaign until the last whistle is blown in 2024.
Mr. Amoah said the speed of development has drastically reduced hence the need to give him the nod to lead the constituency.
“I don’t want them to feel that when we are getting to the elections we will relax. We are not going to relax. We are fully prepared. We want to enlighten the people to see the benefits of politics. So, the new engine is in and we can run non-stop. The MP in the previous elections said he was young and should be given the chance. Now he is also old and should also give way.
Because of me, they are now donating jerseys, I heard they are distributing motor kings and we are ready for him in every angle and you can feel the Mathew effect.” He stressed.
