The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga East Constituency Mathew Silas Amoah has alleged a gun attack targeted at him.
Speaking to the press after casting his vote, Silas Amoah said the attack occurred last night at his residence when he was about going out for his final round of campaign.
He claimed several gunshots were heard close to his residence at about 9 pm on Friday. He stated that although he has reported the matter to the police, he removed all the number plates on his vehicles as part of personal security measures.
“Four gunshots were fired in my house. And that was at the time I was about to move out to do my last campaigns. We called the district police commander to report the issue. But we thought it was wise that everybody knows my car numbers. And we’re running late into the night,” he stated.
“So, we took off the numbers of the vehicle. But this morning, we have embossed them back because I think it’s daytime. It’s in the night that sometimes it’s risky”
The 35-year-old made these allegations while responding to concerns raised by his contender and Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga East Constituency Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.
Dr. Ayine, in an interview with the media earlier, had raised an alarm about suspicious movement of unregistered vehicles in the area. He said his camp had picked intelligence that the NPP candidate was planning to cause mayhem at polling assumed to be his (Dr. Ayine’s) stronghold.
The MP was worried that the unregistered vehicles could be used to foment trouble and thus, filed a complaint with the police.
But Silas Amoah, while dismissing the MP’s concerns, labelled counter allegation of attempts by the NDC and its candidate to intimidate them at a certain polling station.
