The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini says Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Dr. Dominic Ayine was re-elected out of pity.

Salahu-Deen said the now Attorney-General and Minister of Justice had seen defeat starring him in the face ahead of the election and resorted to pity-seeking campaign to woo voters.

He claimed Dr. Ayine went to the extent of kneeling and begging voters in his constituency, pleading with them not to disgrace him at the polls.

“Ayine was pleading, begging on his knees. Begging the elders, begging voters in the constituency to vote for him, telling them that this is his last term. They shouldn’t disgrace him.”.

“He’s gone for his four years. That’s his last term. They should give him this chance. Telling them that he’s an elder brother to Honourable Mathew Silas Amoah and Mathew still has a chance to come back. They should just let him go and retire so that they can give it to Matthew”.

But for his pity-seeking strategy, the NPP Regional Youth Organizer believes Dr. Ayine would have been ousted from Parliament in the December 7 elections.

“Ayine, looking at the situation, decided to play the pitying card. And you know our electorates and our elders. The more you appear pitiful, they somehow gravitate towards you. So that was the angle in which Dominic Ayine came from. And he won the elections by pity. So I’ll give it to him.”

Ahead of the 2024 polls, Salahu-Deen was very confident that the MP would be defeated by the NPP parliamentary candidate Mathew Silas Amoah and even boasted about how Amoah’s campaign and philanthropic works had unsettled Dr. Ayine and forced him to take development of the constituency seriously.

However, the results of the election in the constituency indicated that Dr. Ayine was still popular as beat his sole contender by more than 4,000 votes out of the total 19,478 valid votes cast.
