Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress has said the Bolgatanga- Bawku- Pulmakom road would have been long completed had the NDC won the 2016 elections.
According to John Dramani Mahama, the NDC had secured funds and awarded the road construction contract to Queiroz Galvao before handing over power.
Speaking Monday, 23 November, 2020 during a visit to the Palace of the overload of the Bawku Traditional Area, Zograan Abogrago Azoka II, Mr Mahama said the work on the stretch was only delayed because the New Patriotic Party won the election.
“As you know the contract for the Quiroz Galvao Bolga – Bawku road was signed in our time and work started in our time. If NDC had remained in office, this road would have been finished long ago,” he said.
Mr. Mahama stressed that his administration was committed to completing the construction of the road, hence the decision to award it to a contractor with the track record of enviable competence.
He promised to work on the township roads in Bawku to give it the dignity it deserves.
Meanwhile, work on the road is currently ongoing with President Akuffo Addo assuring the people of the region that “fifty (50) kilometres of the 96.5 kilometre road has been finished in first class condition, and is now in use. The remaining 46.5 kilometre, according to the Minister for Roads and Highways, that instrument of development on our country, is scheduled to be completed by December”.
Former President John Mahama is on a two days campaign tour of the Upper East region.
