The Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has lambasted John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), for perpetrating a deceitful act on the people of the Upper East Region.
Addressing a gathering at the Bindiru Chief Palace as part of his regional campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia recounted how Mr Mahama, in a desperate bid to sway voters, cut the sod for the construction of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Polmakom Road in December 2016, few days before the elections.
This move, Dr. Bawumia asserted, was a cynical ploy devoid of any genuine intention to serve the people.
“He brought equipment, did the sod cutting, and ran away,” Dr. Bawumia remarked.
“They didn’t have the money to fund the construction of the road. It was a mere election gimmick, a ‘419’ move designed to deceive the people,” He added.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted his government’s commitment to the project, saying upon assuming office, they prioritized the construction of the road, securing a proper funding source.
He noted that, a remarkable 70% of the road has been completed, with the contractor set to return to the site to finish the project, despite a brief funding challenge.
