The Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga has fulfilled a 2022 promise made to learners and authorities of Preparatory School.
During the school’s 50th anniversary in 2022, the MCE, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, listened to the concerns of school authorities about the deplorable state of some classroom blocks that required renovation.
Mr. Asanga, at the time, pledged to ensure that a 5-unit classroom block that was in a deplorable state got the needed attention if the assembly were fortunate to get hold of funds.
With the intervention through the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, the block identified to be in a deplorable state has since been renovated and 175 pieces of furniture have been supplied to the school.
Apart from the 5-unit classroom block at the Preparatory School in Zaare, a 3-unit classroom block started by residents of Yipaala has also been completed with 105 pieces of furniture including teachers’ chairs also supplied and equally handed over on Thursday, September 13, 2024.
As part of SOCO, a 3-unit classroom block with office, store, and supply of 105 mono desks have been supplied at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic School though the school is yet to be officially handed over.
Handing over the structure at the Preparatory School, Mr. Asanga noted that education is a major priority hence, the attention given to the sector with funding from SOCO.
“A year or more ago, I was here to attend the 50th anniversary of this school and I promised that if the assembly had funds we would work on the block. SOCO came so I insisted that this block was included and I am happy that this promise has been fulfilled and that the atmosphere is conducive and should motivate teachers to teach well. It is unfortunate that some schools still do not have the necessary infrastructure and that explains why we are giving more attention to educational infrastructure under SOCO,” the MCE said.
The Headmistress of Preparatory Primary School, Catherine Assibi Nyaaba, expressed gratitude to the assembly for the fulfillment of the promise adding, it would improve teaching and learning.
“The MCE came and honored our invitation and we are grateful because we hardly see people of his caliber visit basic schools to celebrate such functions, I want to tell him that we are grateful for attending which led him to see the nature of the structure and eventually improving the situation. The project has come timely and I want to make a solemn pledge that we are going to ensure that this place is maintained properly,” she assured.
According to the Headteacher of Yipaala JHS, Tiumsongo Sebastian, the school struggled with a decent space over the years for teaching and learning.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Director of Education, Anne Estella Kye-eebo, urged the teachers and students to make judicious use of the improved infrastructure adding, there is no excuse for them not to perform with the improved infrastructure and supply of furniture.
