LEARNERS OF ASOROGOBIISI JHS RECEIVING THEIR PRIZE PACKAGE

Asorogobiisi Junior High School in Yorogo emerged winner of the 2024 edition of the Tigsitaaba Festival quiz competition.

The Quiz Competition was instituted in 2023 as part of efforts to mark the Tigsitaaba Festival, a festival celebrated by the people of Yorogo, a community in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.

With the desire to improve the standard of education in the community and to create awareness of the festival, the quiz competition was then instituted. This often sees the three junior high schools in the community including, Asorogobiisi Junior High School, Yorogo JHS, and Faliya JHS compete for the top spot.

The questions largely focused on Mathematics, English, Science, the Tigsitaaba Festival, and Yorogo as a community.

The Quiz Competition is one of a series of activities to be organized ahead of the climax of the Tigsitaaba Festival on December 28, 2024.

Tigsitaaba Festival was instituted in 2019 in a bid to unite the community and to serve as a vehicle to propel residents of the community to make contributions towards the development of the community. To this end, residents have since been paying household levies, and individuals, both formal and informal workers, businessmen, and women all make contributions to raise revenue.

Funds realized go into the construction of a one-story library complex with six classrooms and a computer laboratory. It will also have space that will serve as the Tigsitaaba Festival office.

It is on this score that the quiz has been organized to motivate students to learn.

The competition saw Asorogobiisi JHS, which hosted this year’s edition win with 62 points. Yorogo JHS, winners of the maiden edition came second this time with 51 points while Faliya JHS placed 3rd with 42 points.

Learners of the Asorogobiisi JHS, who ensured that their school hosted and won the competition, shared their impressions about the quiz competition.

One of the learners Azare Gabriel said “I enjoyed the quiz because it improved my state of learning and I want to thank the Tigsitaaba Festival committee for organizing the quiz. I will tell my colleagues that we should be serious with our education,” he said.
