Senior Vice President of policy think tank, IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil has wondered why the Board of Directors of the Public Procurement Authority(PPA) under whose watch the sacked Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Adjenim Boateng Adjei stole millions of Cedis have not resigned, or have not been sacked by the President.
Following recommendations of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), President Nana Akufo-Addo sacked Mr Adjei for engaging in conflict of interest, through which he awarded government contracts to his own company and benefited financially by reselling them to the highest bidder.
“Is there a reason why the Board Members of the PPA who sat and watched the CEO steal, have not resigned en-bloc or been sacked ????
Is there a reason??? Mr Bentil quizzed.
The CHRAJ investigations were triggered by an investigation by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni titled Contracts for Sale, #Donkomi. In it he uncovered how Mr Adjei had awarded contracts to TDL, his own company and then sold the contracts for his own profit to real companies to execute the contracts.
For Mr Bentil, the Board should go with the CEO for supervising the the stealing by the CEO.
The Board Members of the PPA include: Professor Douglas Boateng, Board Chairperson; Hon. Godfred Dame, Deputy Attorney-General, Board Member; Mad. Patricia Safo, MD, JCS Investments, Board Member; Mr. Samuel Richard Nee Baidoo, Board Vice Chairperson; Mrs. Ernestina Swatson Eshun, Board Member; Dr. Emmanuel Yaw Boakye, Board Member; Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei, CEO, PPA, Board Member; Mrs. Stella D. Williams, Board Member; and Mr. Francis D. Kofi Owusu.
The board had come under criticism for not flagging the award of contracts under restrictive tender to the TDL, the CEO’s company.
