Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini says the Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency, Abdulai Abanga is on course to retaining the seat for the party.
Salahu-Deen said aside from the MP’s outstanding track record of achievements that has put him in pole position to win the seat again in the upcoming elections, his main opponent, Issifu Mahmoud, who is contesting on the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) ticket is unpopular among the electorates.
“The NDC candidate, I don’t even know his name. He was missing everywhere. That’s how unpopular he is. This is a young man who should have focused on his law career and build himself in that area not to come and contest as a parliamentary candidate,” he stated.
The Binduri parliamentary seat promised to be hotly contested in the upcoming elections as both parties are keen on winning it.
The NDC, in 2020 elections, fell short of that seat to realizing their 15/15 target and is confident of winning it this time around to make up for the number.
Leadership of the NDC blamed the loss of the seat to the NPP in the 2020 elections to internal wrangling but assured that such issues have been resolved and that the party is on target to reclaiming it.
But speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today this morning, the NPP Youth Organizer said the internal wrangling in the NDC has not only deepened but also the party’s parliamentary candidate for 2024 is not popular among the electorates.
“If it’s about internal wrangling, no party is free from that. However, it is about how pervasive it is in your party that matters. When you look at the NDC and what’s currently happening in the NDC relative to that candidate, he should be the most unhappiest person in this contest,” he argued.
This situation, he believes, gives the NPP’s candidate an edge to clinch another victory in the upcoming elections.
