Upper East Region-based singer, Wahidu Adisa known by his stage Showbowy has lashed out at players in the entertainment industry in the region.
According to him, although musicians in the region are making strenuous efforts to have a breakthrough, industry players particularly gatekeepers are hindering their success and stifling the growth of the entire industry.
“Artistes are here driving Candoo, the small that he makes from the Candoo driving, he will use it to record a song. You’ll sit in your radio station, get AC and it’s blowing you fresh air and you stand there and say anything you want about us” he lamented on Showbiz Hour.
These gatekeepers, the ‘Juju’ hitmaker said, do not only fail to pay local musicians for their services when they engage them to perform at their events but refuse to promote their music with the excuse that their songs are poor in quality.
Others, he added, demand to be paid before they could assist in the promotion.
” You prefer playing Shatta Wale’s, Fancy Gadam’s, Maccasio’s, Fad Lad’s songs, the way you people are respecting them, playing their songs but when we release our songs, you say we should pay”.
Showbowy wondered how they expect musicians in the region to pay them for promotion of their works and produce quality songs when they (gatekeepers) do not pay them for their services.
“We will release a song, you would say that the song is not standard, we don’t promote, we don’t shoot better videos, we don’t push our songs. With what money?” he questioned.
For him, while the gatekeepers may appear to have a field day, they will be at the losing end should these budding artistes rise to prominence nationally without their support.
“You will feel like it will affect us. But if God blesses us, and we blow without you people, there’s no we can respect you because you didn’t struggle with us”.
