The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) parliamentary candidate for Bongo Constituency Diana Aburiya Asuure has jumped to the defense of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, asking critics of the DCE to be objective.
“I think people should be very objective. It’s about what exactly? I’m coming. People should be very objective about assessing somebody as an individual”.
The DCE for the area, Rita Atanga has been criticized for what some say are her inaction and failure to bring tangible development to the district since her appointment in 2021.
Aside from this, some party members in the Constituency also accused her of acting in ways that deepen cracks within the party.
But speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, Diana Aburiya argued that the DCE has performed creditably well, addressing developmental needs of the area since her appointment.
She pointed to the building of schools, health and road infrastructure as some of the incredible achievements of the DCE.
“I have told you that she has constructed schools. I have told you she has constructed chips compounds. I have told you she has constructed sheds for shea butter extraction. I have told you she has constructed roads,” she argued.
She noted, however, that the economic difficulties that plagued the country in the past few years have brought capital intensive projects to a halt.
Therefore, it is unfair to blame the DCE for the seeming stagnation of development in the area, she argued further.
She wants critics of the DCE to be fair in assessing her performance in office.
“From 2017 up to 2020, you could imagine the speed of development that took place across the country,” she said.
“But same cannot be said between 2021 and now because of the COVID that we had and together with the challenges that we had in the international level. So people should be objective”.
