The Youth Wing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has galvanized support from the people of the Upper East Region particularly youngsters for the election of the party’s leader Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the December presidential election.

Addressing a press conference in Bolgatanga on September 13, 2024, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of NPP, noted that the upcoming elections are crucial and thus, the youth, who constitute majority of the voter population, must thoroughly assessed those presenting themselves for election and make their decision based on the track records and qualities of the candidates.

He said the NPP leader has an unmatched track record and will create an enabling environment for the youth to realize their dreams and aspirations if he is elected president.

Extolling the virtues of Dr. Bawumia, Salam Mustapha stated that the Vice-President appreciates the needs of young Ghanaians and has put in the party’s manifesto, carefully thought through ideas to meet these needs.

“Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia also does not drink alcohol. He is not lazy.  He comes up with solutions like DRIP to provide construction equipment to fix our roads in our districts and not to buy private cars for pretty women for all manner of benefits. This is the stark difference between a serious person and a person who leads for the perks”.

While placing the NPP flagbearer on a pedestal, he shredded the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama as lacking the attributes and qualities to lead the country.

He said unlike Dr. Bawumia, the NDC candidate has no track record as a Vice-President and did not only fail to take his job as president seriously but also mismanaged the affairs of the country, a situation that had plunged the country into crisis and pushed many into abject poverty.

For him, the former president’s quest to return to power is driven by malice and should be rejected in the elections.

“John Mahama just did not take his job seriously then and would not take it seriously if you make the mistake to bring him back. Now that he doesn’t have to account for his leadership and seek another term, he would be worse!”

He acknowledged the current economic troubles, arguing that despite the difficulties the NPP government led President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo “has steered the vessel of state with tact and compassion”.

He claimed whereas the crisis under the erstwhile administration was self inflicted, the prevailing situation is a global phenomenon.

The NPP National Youth Organizer also compared the Vice-Presidential candidates of both the NDC and the NPP, stating that while Mathew Opoku-Prempeh of the governing party has distinguished himself as Minister of Education, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang of the main opposition NDC was inept and insensitive serving in same capacity.
