FORMER BAWKU DCE DONATES MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO DISTRICT HEALTH DIRECTORATE

A Former District Chief Executive for the Bawku West District in the Upper East Region who doubles as a Principal Revenue Officer, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Tema Harbour, Dr. Desmond Bugbilla, on Tuesday November 16, 2021, handed over five hundred (500) shades of medical supplies to the Bawku West District Health Directorate.

The latest donation is the second to have been done this year after a similar exercise earlier in June. The donation is one of the biggest to have been facilitated and done by an individual in the Upper East Region.

The items which run into hundreds include surgical gloves, Covid-19 antigen test kids, theater tools, portable oxygen kits, other very important but hard to get medications and several other boxes of medical supplies.

In recognition of the key role health volunteers in the various communities play in the health delivery chain, the philanthropist and his partners included nearly 100 bicycles for onward distribution to the volunteers. It is therefore hoped that the donated items will go a long way to improve quality health care delivery in the district and the entire region as some of the items are set to be sent to other districts including the regional hospital.

Speaking to the Media on the sidelines of the donation, Dr. Desmond Bugbilla, explained that he has made it a point to give back to community, adding his collaboration with Dr. Abass Ganiue, a medical doctor based in Germany has since come in handy.

He further disclosed that he and his collaborators have again secured an ambulance which will be handed to the Sapailiga health facility in the next few weeks.

“We are ambassadors to Zebila as we are over there. So, whatever good thing that you think that you can get and bring back home, why not?

They come, we support them and sometimes you talk to them and they are ready to assist. These are just donations that he brought to support our after I spoke with him. This is not the only sector that I have been donating, I have donated in the area of education”.

Dr. Abass Ganiue described his relationship with Dr. Desmond as one that has been impactful hence his continues effort to help him give back to the people of Bawku West.

“Desmond is a lovely person and is always trying to make things happen as it should be. We met and we discussed and I decided that through him, we will extend the donation to Zebila. It is through friends and as a doctor, some of my clients just ask of some of things I need so they assist me”.

Receiving the items, the District Director of Health, Alhassan Lawal, says the donation will help the directorate and other health facilities outside the district including the regional hospital.

According to Mr. Lawal, items like the surgical gloves have been difficult to come by as he details how challenged they were prior to the donation.

“The things he brought will go a long way to improve on the quality of care that we give. Especially, our midwives will need the surgical gloves. The other things like bicycles which we will spread across the district. Looking at the terrain, our houses are scattered and it will help ease their movement because they do home visits”.
