The Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, is set to file her parliamentary nomination forms later today October 9, 2020 as parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Navrongo Central constituency.
The battle for the seat has intensified between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the Electoral Commission closes filing of nominations today.
Ms Abayage’s main opponent, Sampson Tamgombu Chiragia of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), filed his nomination forms on Tuesday, with a pledge to win the seat for his party.
“I will file my nomination today to lead the NPP in Navrongo Central Constituency to a massive victory in December! God Dey We Dey!” Ms Abayage announced on social media.
The Navrongo Central Constituency gained nationwide attention when Ms Abayage defeated the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Joseph Kofi Adda, in a very keen parliamentary primary election.
Even though she is considered a formidable candidate, analysts say that disgruntled supporters of the incumbent MP could drastically reduce the votes of the NPP. This, they argue, could lead to an NDC victory given the swing nature of the constituency.
