General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah will tomorrow, October 7, 2020 file nomination forms on behalf of the Party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama at offices of the Electoral Commission of Ghana in Accra. This was disclosed by Mr. Mahama.
The filing of nomination which began on Monday, October 5,2020 is scheduled to end on Friday, October 9.
On Tuesday, October 6, 2020. Mahama’s main contender in the 2020 elections, president Akufo-Addo filed his nomination forms at the EC’s headquarters in Accra himself.
President Akufo-Addo after filing his nomination urged the Electoral Management Body to ensure a free, fair and transparent elections on December 7 stating that he does not want to be winner of a “crooked” elections.
In a post on social media, Former president Mahama who is yet to file his nomination forms indicated that his forms are ready to be filed tomorrow. He also expressed his gratitude to his party followers for supporting his candidature.
“Today I reviewed my nomination forms and signed the relevant portions for filing.
General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia will tomorrow, Wednesday, file the nomination papers at the Electoral Commission on my behalf. Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and I want to say a big thank you for supporting our candidature,” a post on his social media pages read.
Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otokunor earlier in an interview on Accra based Citi FM had said that the party had been complying with modalities which they had agreed upon with the EC and they are confident that their candidate would successfully go through the process of filing his nomination.
“Last Friday we held a meeting with the EC to discuss the modalities for the filing, and we have since been working to comply with the modalities that we all have agreed upon. We are very confident in what we have done, and we don’t think there will be any challenges at all.
We don’t also anticipate that Jean Mensa and her team considering all the credibility issues would want to disqualify anyone,” he said.
Meanwhile, the commission has set two separate teams to scrutinize the nomination forms of presidential aspirants for approval of otherwise.
