The governing New Patriotic Parliamentary candidate for Navrongo Central, Abdallah Otito Achuliwor has reaffirmed his commitment to ensure that the youth resource situated in the constituency is completed.
The project, which construction started in 2018, stalled over payment infractions between the government and the contractor. The stall of work on the sports and youth resource facility sparked concerns and a series of protests by young people of the area, who demanded completion of the project to serve the purpose for which it was initiated.
Abdallah Achuliwor, who is seeking to be the people’s representative in Parliament, had promised to lead efforts for its completion.
However, there is currently a legal tussle over the contractual agreement after government abrogated the contract and attempted to reward it to another company.
The NPP candidate, while indicating his hands are tied under the current circumstances, assured of working to resolve the legal tussle and have the project completed if he is elected Member of Parliament for the constituency in Saturday’s elections.
“We based our promise to finish it on the fact that the injunction will be lifted. Unfortunately, we don’t control the court system. And so, the injunction has not been lifted even up to today,” he stated.
He continued, “And so even if I have my own money and I go to the stadium to go and do the work, I will be breaching that injunction. And so, I can be held for contempt of court”.
“I am confident that if I become the Member of Parliament, I will be able to work the process to get that injunction lifted to enable the work on the Youth Centre to continue.”
On his chances in the polls, Achuliwor expressed confidence of winning, stating that his service to the people of Navrongo, his humility and credibility put him ahead of his opponent.
“They believe in me. They know that when I say it, I do. And they see humility in me. They’ve seen that I have vast experience to be able to manage the constituency so that Navrongo will move forward.”
