Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has accused president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of attempting to rig the outcome of the polls conducted on December 7.
According to Mr. Mahama, the president and his party have deployed military personnel to rig the results of constituency his party has won.
The NDC’s presidential candidate served notice that he and his party will resist such attempts to overturn the verdict of the Ghanaian electorates.
“Some of what is happening is unacceptable and Nana Akufo-Addo continue to show credentials that are very undemocratic. You cannot use the military to overturn some of the results in Constituencies that we have won. We will resist any attempt to subvert the sovereignty of the people. The right thing must be done,” he stated.
Mr. Mahama insisted that he and his party have won majority of the seats in the Parliamentary Elections and will form the majority side of parliament in the 8th parliament of the Fourth Republic.
While expressing confidence in winning the presidential election, the former president claimed his party has won 10 regions out of the 16 regions in the country.
“We thank the electorates for giving us a working majority in parliament, 140 seats in parliament which is a majority. I have looked at the results we’ve collated so far and I’m excited and happy with the results and we’ve won in 10 regions out of 16,” he claimed.
He also dismissed reports that he has conceded to the president and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The New Patriotic Party has also been claiming that it has won the election both in the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
However, the Electoral Commission is yet to declare the official results of the presidential polls.
The EC had scheduled to declare the winner of the results as at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 7, 2020 but has extended the timeline for the declaration indefinitely.
